City Mantra

In this city – and i guess in every other city in the Western World that i have seen – there is a constant murmur going on.

A mantra of sorts.

And in ever more sophisticated and sublime ways it tells us one thing and one thing only:

Buy me

Don’t walk by me

Buy me

Don’t walk by me

Buy me

Don’t walk by me

Buy me

Don’t walk by me

Buy me

And it is attractive

And it is seductive

And it is instinctive

And it is compulsive

And it is addictive

And it will linger in my brain long after i have left the city.

The message will be stored deep underground in my mind, even if i have not consciously followed its Siren calls.

Because advertisement has pulled out all the stops now.

They address us in all possible ways.

They have studied our psychology.

They access our instincts.

They detect our desires.

They are tracking our every move & buy.

They have collected our data.

They have scanned our dreams.

I admit, I enjoy the smart style, i get inspiration from the perfect aesthetic.

I like the sophistication and smoothness of the design.

I admire the amount of creativity and care & professionalism that goes into the production of those ad campaigns.

I better watch out … not to buy into their mantra ; )

  1. there seems to be a world-sale
    the cheaper the better
    buy more – pay less
    feel less
    see less
    dream less
    live less
