In ten years from now,
at least how i see it,
things will look a little different
than now.
The weather will have changed
significantly,
erratically,
dangerously.
The species of nature will be dying out
with accelerating speed.
The arctic ice shields will have been melted away
much more than we had anticipated,
the sea levels have already risen significantly.
Parts of the world that are just fine right now
will already be inhabitable.
And the waves of migration that we already see now,
will have swelled to a raging climate-migration stream.
By then it will be hard to deny any longer
that we stand on the brink of Armageddon.
In spite of all the nationalists, the populists,
the isolationist politicians trying quite successfully
to divide societies and nations for the sake of power,
people will finally arrive at a simple realization:
We can only save our world
and the future of the generations to come after us,
if we put aside our differences, our ideologies
and our personal preoccupations
and unite in this elemental struggle
for the future of this beautiful world.
By then it will be even more clear, that we have all the technological know-how, that we actually already know what to do and what to stop doing, we already know that we just need the unified political will of the leaders of the world to direct all the necessary resources and financial means into this one direction:
– to stop CO2 emissions NOW!
– stop using polluting technologies
– stop exploiting more of earth’s resources
– stop using oceans as dumping ground
– stop plastic
– stop deforestation
– start planting of trees on massive scale, worldwide
– substitute green innovations
– strengthen global cooperation, collaboration, joint ventures
– support not-for-profit grassroots initiatives
– mobilize the masses for this one goal
– promote unity, one humanity, one-earth-thinking
Where would we get all the money necessary to do all that?
I suggest to “convince” the world’s billionaires, the 1 percent on top of the food chain to put their riches to good use for a change ; )
I would suggest to put all military spending on ice ; )
and divert the military budget of all nations towards this one goal
Instead of fighting and preparing more of the most advanced weapons to kill each other,
we could use the military machine to plant trees, to secure nature reserves,
to do something wholesome, constructive and meaningful
For the sake of God and the planet!
Lets do that!
ps: i know, i am dreaming : )
but tell me:
Why not?
