The Beach

The Beach

By now you could say

that this should actually already be

as well-known and normal to me

as a pair of well worn shoes

But no!

It still is as fresh as ever

and probably will be

for a long time

for me

Cause every day before the sunset

when i walk onto the beach

where i live

it is like taking in

nutrition for my soul

There, everything i see is so alive to me

the waves and the green and the fading blue of the sky

the Mangrove jungle and the bushes, the palm trees

and the little houses tucked away amongst them

The kids playing football for the fun of it

and the small ones with the sand

and their dogs & puppies

they jump around

with joy

Mothers and daughters and neighbors sitting around

chatting, waiting

the fishermen coming back

men helping them to push the boats ashore

Sometimes when the time is right

or something i don’t know is right too

the fish come close to shore and the pelicans

and seagulls or other birds i can not name come in swarms

to dive-bomb into the sea

for dinner

The same waters where twenty or so or more

of the fishermen

and women sometimes too

stand chest high in the waves

fishing in peaceful collaboration with the birds

What a sight!

All bathed in gentle evening light

What can i say?

You have it guessed already:

I am a beach addict, right?

And a proud one for that!

The world may break to pieces

and sometimes it looks that it does

as long as i can walk onto the beach in the morning

as long as i am allowed to be here to walk the beach at dusk …

I am a happy man indeed! ;  )
