There is a lot to see in a subway car
especially around 5pm on a work day.
I like to try to catch people’s eyes
but … well, thats really hard ; )
With the little ones, it’s great
they wave back, they smile, they are open.
Looking at the crowded space
it seems like little Humanity in front of my eyes.
Not little Italy, not little Czech Republic.
I see Humanity in a nutshell.
The young dudes and girls, the teens & 20-ish ones
handsome and cute
mostly clued to their iPhones
oblivious and naturally self-centered
often vein these days
i guess thats the time for that.
They feel still fresh and hungry,
awaiting the world to fulfill The Promise.
And on the other hand of the spectrum, the Old ones.
Down and out.
So often i see those people here,
lost and empty,
somehow drudging along
but overwhelmed by all the changes, the progress,
the technology, the speed of life around them.
Somehow left behind to get old by themselves.
I feel sad to see them so … alone.
And in-between ???
All the Shades of Grey.
It is almost like you can see the passage of the years in the faces,
the bodies exponentially degrading,
the lines in the faces, the dullness of the eyes,
the general feeling of bleakness and disappointment.
The grayness of the aura getting darker as they age.
Am i projecting all this, am i dreaming?
I guess not, i trust my perceptions.
All this is not to say that there are not some exceptions to be seen.
Some people – a few – who seem awake, open.
Colorful aura, interesting faces.
Seldom – i am sorry to say – too seldom i encounter somebody who is willing to exchange a smile,
who is able to hold eye contact for longer than a second.
But they do exist : )
Easiest it is with the children.
Especially the little ones who still did not get the concept of “stranger” stamped into their receptive minds.
They smile, the wave, the look curious.
They express joy and the rest in the middle of the subway car,
in the middle of this after-a-hard-workday-dullness & rush.
They are tThe Hope.
And then the young couples in love, obviously living in the bubble of “we2”.
Tenderness not hidden away, touching allowed.
Very refreshing!
Well, i guess when i am driving in the subway i am missing out on encountering the rich & famous, the beautiful & highly successful.
The Crème de la Crème of Humanity.
I guess they prefer to drive around in their own little box or be driven by taxis and such.
Not needing to look at the other side of the Great Divide.
May they drive in peace : )
I think that we humans are a really peculiar species.
Rich in diversity & creativity.
Poor in connection and direction.
Multiplying.
My prayer is, that we all may find peace.
That we all may create connection with our self and with one another.
That we all may align our visions and efforts into a unified direction that serves a common purpose for the good of everyone.
Om mani padme hum
Well, you are not the first one to notice that the average Czechs are perhaps the most frowning people in the world… That´s quite sad, esp. as we have all the reasons to smile, compared to many other less fortunate nations around. The reason for this habit of frowning is a mistery to me, being a Czech myself. Fortunately, we are talking about “average” Czechs and not all. So maybe just like in life in general, one shall search for the better minority:-)
