Inspiration

It’s kind of hard to start to write about Inspiration, something that is so fleeting, mysterious and immaterial …..

For me it is obvious that it comes from the same sphere as Intuition, this level of our consciousness that usually is beyond our rational thinking and control, beyond the deductive abilities and conclusions of our mind.

In general everyday use, the word inspiration would be used most often in the context of art, in connection with the work of composers and poets or inspired novelists of world literature who wrote about big things.

Dostoyevsky maybe, Tolstoy or Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Ralph Waldo Emerson or Walt Whitman.

Artists in the past have often associated with a muse or more muses – usually beautiful looking females – for inspiration.

No big surprise about that, since in the past the now famous artists (we know about) mostly were males (some with a pretty big ego too ;  ).

And the word muse(s) stems from the Greek Mythology:

The “Nine Muses” were “the goddesses of literature, the sciences and the arts”, they were thought to be the daughters of Zeus, the king of all the gods and of Mnemosyne, the goddess of Memory!

Well, those muses have been the source of inspiration “from above” for extraordinary things throughout the ages, ever since.

Nowadays, even every fashion designer of some fame needs to have his own personified muse (or better … more of them ;  )

Karl Lagergeld had a whole load of them, from Linda Evangelista and Claudia Schiffer up to Kaia Gerber

(shortly before he moved on to higher realms ;  )

But now, a bit more seriously now, ok!

Inspiration is something that artist need so desperately as the air that they breath to create outstanding and unique works that can touch and move people, that can make something inside people resonate deeper than mere trendy superficial beauty of crafty skill can do.

I would call that:

Touching a universal level of us people, our soul.

This is what true Inspiration does. Opening a window into something special, divine maybe.

Besides bringing something quite new and unique and never before there into our world.

The recipients (and “deliverers”) of this kind of inspiration have always been the artists, the writers of the world but also often the inventors who brought us great scientific and technological advances and breakthroughs in their respective fields.

There are lots of anecdotes and stories from such folks, that they received such sparks of inspired ideas unexpectedly while enjoying a hot shower ;  ) or even while playing their violin (Albert Einstein).

Or while simply daydreaming (Nikola Tesla  ;  0 )

Or the awesome Hedy Lamarr, who has been anything else but a scientist (she actually was known as a world famous Hollywood Bombshell Megastar), who without any technical training invented things like “frequency hopping spread-spectrum radio” to help American torpedos avoid detection during WWII, amongst other ideas that just “came to her”. Unfortunately – being a exceptionally beautiful woman – she was never acknowledged for here inventions until shortly before her death 🙄

Obviously Inspiration works very similar to receiving Inspiration, just often in a much more broader, impersonal,  almost epic kind of delivery.

In the field of Spirituality and Metaphysics, this is not unknown and i actually would like to point this out in more detail here. And with more seriousness too, because in my life i have benefited a lot from this kind of “metaphysical” inspiration.

Also because this field – unfortunately – is not generally known and more often than not it is quickly dismissed as New Age woo woo stuff ;  )

This – actually astonishing – phenomena is generally called “Revelation”, “Inspired Writing” or “Channeling”

And it has been around for quite a while already, if you think about it:

– Like “The Ten Commandments” that God passed down to Moses on this mountaintop :  )

This was definitely a channeled divinely inspired writing (even set in stone!) that directed ethical thinking and moral action ever since that event. At least in a specific religious context.

– For me personally this whole “Divine Inspiration” thing became really relevant and important sometime in the early 1980s. Then and there i came into first contact with some significant and extraordinary channeled writings, elaborate and sophisticated works on Metaphysics that were not the result of some writer sitting down saying: “Ok, now i will write a 1000 page book about … the nature of reality (or something similar)

Those works that i am referring to were actually “dictated” sentence by sentence by a source beyond the person who was doing the writing.

The writers – often serious professional people who were actually originally reluctant to write –  have reported to be “overshadowed” or better “en-lightened” by something with a higher form of intelligence than themselves, but the inspired ideas and concepts were expressed in the language and according to the level of intellectual capacity of the person doing the writing.

A few such people i might name here and you may read their story – and of course their resulting books – by following the links that i will put in.

Helen Schucman

A rather reluctant clinical psychologist who proceeded anyway through six years to  write down what has become “A Course in Miracles“, a  sophisticated metaphysical text that became a  very influential set of books from the 1970 onwards till today.  (see The Curious Mystical Text behind Marianne Williamson’s Presidential Bid) .

Jane Roberts and the Seth Material

Jane Roberts was a author and poet in her own right. The Seth Material is a collection of writing dictated by her to her husband from late 1963 until her death in 1984. Roberts claimed the words were spoken by a spirit entity named Seth.

The material (20+ books i know of, probably more) covers many topics of a metaphysical nature, extrasensory phenomena and the nature of reality and is regarded as one of the cornerstones of New Age philosophy,

Alice Bailey born 1880 was the “recipient” of more than twenty-four voluminous books on theosophical subjects, and was one of the first writers to use the term New Age.
Bailey’s works, written between 1919 and 1949, describe a wide-ranging system of esoteric thought covering such topics as how spirituality relates to our Solar Systemmeditationhealingspiritual psychology, the destiny of nations, and prescriptions for society in general.
She described the majority of her work as having been inspired or telepathically dictated to her by a spiritual being, initially referred to only as “the Tibetan”.
Her inspired writings are extremely detailed and specific about topics Alice would have no way of knowing herself.

And then of course there has been this gentleman with the name of Edgar Cayce , who “received” an endless stream of subconscious information in a state of trance.
During these trance sessions, Cayce would answer questions on subjects as varied as healingreincarnationdreams, the afterlifepast-lifenutritionAtlantis and future events.
Cayce believed that it was his subconscious mind exploring the dream realm, where he believed minds were timelessly connected.
Cayce founded a nonprofit organization, the Association for Research and Enlightenment,[2] to store and facilitate the study of his channelings, as well as run a hospital.
A biographer gave him the nickname The Sleeping Prophet.

Now, whatever you or I may think about life and beyond, these works are things that exist and are most probably of a different category than the multitudes of books, even most spiritual and esoteric books out there, the millions of books written by folks like you and me (just a bit more intelligent or skilled folks maybe 😛  )

In my humble opinion, anybody who may have a honest thirst to understand whats actually going on here, seriously want to grasp the meaning of life and reality or asks questions about what is beyond the senses and beyond the visible material universe ….. here is something to consider:

Voices that did not originate in the regular human mind alone.

Ufff!

🙂

inspiration

my spirit takes flight

sometimes

and takes my mind on its wings

i have to scribble it all down
