I have my finger on the pulse

of the world

i take humanity’s

temperature

i look at society

as a whole

at least a try!

 

and i think this is something

we all should do

as best as we can

 

and we should be quite critical in that

we should take a quite hard, stern, long look

we should not just eat all the candies we are served

all the junk and the gourmet stuff

we should be critical indeed

about our culture

 

cultural critique is not a bad word

the cultural critic is not a grumpy old intellectual guy

who has something negative to say

about everything and any thing

he lays his eyes on

 

no, he/she is not a bitter commentary of the ways things go

she or he serves as the necessary corrective of a society

that just marches onwards

blindly

 

the philosophers of ancient Greece

they fulfilled this function perfectly i guess

and maybe even Sartre and Camus in Paris

and brainy girls like Susan Sontag

maybe, what do i know :  )

cause i don’t like to fly blind

because i like to know where i am going

and why i am going with whom

 

now more than ever i want to be clear

which company i choose

which society i join

which world
