Painterly – Art from Code
The ‘all-knowing’ Wikipedia says “Painterly refers to the application of paint in a ‘loose’ or less than controlled manner, resulting in the appearance of visible brushstrokes within the finished painting.
Generally without closely following carefully drawn lines.”
A bit messy, to say it more precise 😀 Like this one, maybe: “Claude Monet Painting by the Edge of a Wood”
Now, i am not a painter or something but i like to make … art-y things.
And my favorite medium and way to do it is with code for the web. And – to be honest – it is really not so easy to be “painterly” with code.
From way back in 2000 when i did my first baby-steps with Actionscript/Flash and later Javascript, i tried to include randomness and jagged lines and self-generating algorithms to ‘escape’ the ‘cleanliness’ and ‘predictability’ of mathematically-drawn computer graphics.
But it was only when i discovered Processing a few years back that it became really exciting to do Art for the Web.
Here i want to share a few of the ‘painterly’ pieces that i made recently.
